What Is a Modular Rotating Stage?

The modular rotating stage supplied by Melody Productionworx is a flexible motion-stage solution developed to accommodate different event scales and production requirements. Instead of manufacturing a fixed rotating stage for each project, the system uses fan-shaped modules, radial beams, and concentric structural rings. Starting from a configuration of approximately 4 m in diameter, the stage can be progressively expanded to 18 m by adding the appropriate modules, rails, wheels, and drive units.

The drive system uses multiple 2 HP motors working together. This multi-drive configuration distributes pulling force around the circumference, reducing concentrated loads and allowing the drive capacity to be scaled according to the stage diameter, overall weight, and performance load. The motors are controlled through variable frequency drives (VFDs), combined with PLC control and encoders to provide smooth motion, variable speed control, forward and reverse rotation, and precise stopping according to programmed show cues.

The rotation speed can be adjusted from approximately 1 rpm to 6 rpm. However, the actual operating speed is always determined according to the stage dimensions, load conditions, performance requirements, and applicable safety considerations.
